Number of people who have realized the presence of an amazing OS called Linux is very less. And those who haven't yet, are really missing out on something great. Linux is a free and open source operating system that is open to modification and redistribution.
There are many amazing distributions of Linux, thanks to its openness. Switching to Linux after using the very addictive Windows family of OSes may not be easy. But, thanks to a great community of open source developers, a simple and easy way to install Linux on your Windows PC and experience it in its wholesome form has been introduced. It is by using the Wubi installer for windows. It helps you install Linux just as you would install any other application. Wubi way of installing Linux is a simple process and requires very few steps.
Note: Wubi works only for Ubuntu Distribution of Linux (Don't get it, then forget I said that)
1.Download Wubi installer from ubuntu site.
2.Run the installer file after download.
3.Enter the drive in which you want Linux to be installed.
4.Enter the size of the Installation drive.
5. Enter the desktop environment.Just choose anything if you are unsure. (choices are just different forms of Ubuntu with stunning visual interfaces).
6.Enter user name and password.
When you click install, the Ubuntu operating system will be downloaded from the Ubuntu site (It (Ubuntu OS) is somewhere around 700MB. Might take a while to download depending on your internet speed). Once this is done just restart your computer to start using Ubuntu.
Faq's:
Q: Will the installation format my Hard disk ?
A: No, it will not format the Hard disk. All that it does is creates a virtual drive (simply said- a folder) in which you Linux OS is installed. it is something like a hard disk within a hard disk.
Q: Will i be able to access the files in that Hard disk ?
A: Yes you will be able to access the files in Disk as usual.
Q:What will happen to my previous Windows OS ?
A: Nothing will happen to it and you can still boot into Windows as the Ubuntu configures Linux for multiboot. i.e. you can choose during startup which OS to boot into as shown.
